Dear Light Group,

In the Book of John, at the point where he knew it was his time to go, Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” and “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.”

Long after he had been crucified and resurrected from the dead, Jesus came to John the Beloved and told him (as recorded in the Book of Revelation), “The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations.”

One of the ways in which we at United Research have attempted to “keep my commandments” – specifically the “leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations” commandment – has been to pray for nations.  The depth of our commitment to this mission – prayer missions to over forty countries, prayer at the Light Center for nations, prayer in our home prayer groups for nations – is a distinguishing feature of United Research.

The daily news reminds us that our mission is not complete.

To inspire us to continue our mission, it could be helpful to hear what Jim Goure told us: “You know the power of Light and Love to cause change.  You know this power deep within you.  So…take on the responsibility of healing the nations.”

Jim pushed us to be all-embracing: “That means all nations, not one better than another.  There is no nation better than another because all nations are people, and people are your well-beloved brothers.  They are the Christ.  There is not one nation considered better or one person considered better in the eyes of God.  All are made in the image and likeness of the Divine.  Therefore, when you consider nations, consider them as people – people on the pathway of Light, trying to find the Light.”

Jim encouraged us to see that, “With the increased power and prayer that you have, you actually can change a nation.  You have changed people; you have healed people….Anyone who has been working with the Seven Steps [to Effective Prayer] has healed someone.  It’s time to heal nations now.  We can no longer be involved just with individuals.  We must break out of individuality and its desires.”

Jim admonished us not to make excuses: “I don’t care what the problem is in your personal world; in working for the nations and healing the nations, your own particular world will be healed.  The Divine flow of Love and Light through you brings about a healing in your own world without asking, without working at it….Once you begin the healing of nations outside of self, the Divine will add a hundred times more unto you than what you give.  ‘All these things will be added unto you.’”

So, with that as inspiration, let us this Saturday pray for nations.  You can certainly pray for all nations, but it might be useful to begin by praying for just one or two nations.  To warm up, you might start with a nation you love: “Thank you, God, for the people of _________.  Bless them and hold them in your Light and Love.”  Be as specific as you can.  Pray for the elements of the society that strike you as being the most important: the families, the children, the workers, the employers, the politicians, the military, the media, etc.  Once you’ve prayed for a country you love, try praying for a country you dislike or a country with deep problems.  Again, you can start with a general prayer such as, “Thank you, God, for the people of _________.  Bless them and hold them in your Light and Love.”  Then pray for specific elements of that society.

From there, if you feel so inclined, pray for all nations.

Thank you for being one of the leaves of the Tree of Life.

Love and Light,
Tully
