Dear Light Group,

For many people, the dream is to retire. Then you don’t have to deal with the people at the office, and you get to do what you’ve always wanted to do–travel, read books, play bridge or golf, etc. This works for some people, but there are many others who get bored after awhile.

Maybe the concept of retirement needs to be revisited. The happiest retirees oftentimes are the most active ones. They are engaged with other people, and they are doing something they love.

Life expectancy in the United States gives most people an average of ten years of life after retirement. These should be productive years–years spent in helping others. Older people can be wiser people, and offering this wisdom to others can be a wonderful gift.

Beyond that, we can give spiritually. Jesus told his disciples, “Let the dead bury the dead.” He was speaking of the walking dead: people whose bodies are functioning but who have not accepted their Divinity. To keep from becoming the walking dead, we need to give Life, to help our fellow human beings.

The best way to productive, to help others, is through prayer. Retired people have a great amount of time in which to pray, to pray effectively for planet Earth, to fulfill the mission Jesus gave each one of us when he said, in the Sermon on the Mount, “Ye are the Light of the world.”

One of the keys to eternal Life is to help our fellow humans in every way we can. For retired people, a way to help their fellow humans–to feel alive and feel that something worthwhile is being accomplished–is to say the Effective Prayer for the whole planet.

To advance this concept, you might want to consider these prayers:

  • Thank you, God, for helping retirees to know their Divine mission. Thank you, God, for giving them the energy and the health to fulfill that mission.
  • Thank you, God, for the love and wisdom and inner peace of retirees. Thank you, God, for their energies of love and peace radiating for the good of all.
  • Thank you, God, for keeping me engaged with Thee, that I may never retire from life, that I may always be giving of Thy goodness to everyone and everything.

Love and Light,
