Jim Goure went to the core issue many of us face when he said, “The tremendous problem that each of us has…is the ego – the desire to be recognized, the desire for this soul to exist, the desire for this ego to receive praise from someone, the desire for this ego to receive love from someone. ‘I’ll give you a little bit of my love,’ the ego says, ‘if you give me one hundred percent of yours.’ The ego always has a string attached.”
The desire to be recognized, the desire for others to have a certain image of us, the desire to be praised, the desire to be loved – all of this drives us to serve the ego. We dress in a certain way, say things in a certain way, act in a certain way – all to support that image we want others to have of us, all so we can get the love and praise we crave.
But is this our true image, and is our ego who we should be serving?
Jesus pointed us in a different direction when he said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, mind, and soul. This is the first and great commandment, and the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
So it’s the Divinity, not our ego, that we should be serving. Loving the Divine, loving everyone, loving ourselves is what we should be doing, not seeking love from outside of ourselves.
Jim told us that, “When you get to the Divinity within, there are no desires for anything or anyone. It’s an entirely different way of existing. When you get to the consciousness of the Divinity within, there is only one desire (if you have any desire at all) and that is to give love, to give Divine Love, not human love, to give Divine Love one hundred percent of the the time to everyone.”
This Saturday (and beyond) let us get into our true nature, this Divine within that only wants to give love. In doing so, you might want to try a prayer such as, “I release my image of myself to the Light. I release everything that has gone into creating that image to the Light. I release all of my childhood experiences, all of my upbringing, all of the things people have said about me, all of the messages I have ever received from the media, all that I have ever aspired to be known for I release to the Light. The Divine within is all that counts. It is the Divine within that does all good works. I give thanks to the Divine for my breath, my heartbeat, my blood, my muscles, my organs, for my physical body. I give thanks for the breath, heartbeats, muscles, and organs of all human beings. I give thanks to the Divine for all life on this planet. I give thanks to the Divine for transforming me into a being who gives and gives and gives Love, Harmony, and Peace to everyone and everything. Thank you, God, for making it so. Amen.”
Love and Light,
